Group Training and Development Ltd. (GTD) was inaugurated in June 1970 by a number of manufacturing companies in North Devon for the purpose of providing apprentice training facilities to enhance apprentice training in the area and assisting the members in off setting the EITB levy in operation at the time.
The group continued to flourish up to the point where the EITB levy was discontinued in 1982.
At this time many group training schemes throughout the UK folded but the directors of GTD decided to continue with the GTD.
At present the group is still flourishing and has twenty five active members who regularly take apprentices and approx twenty more who gain advice and guidance from GTD.
GTD is also a founder member of GTA England, an association of 35 group training schemes throughout England.
Today GTD continue to offer a comprehensive service to the members from the advertising of vacancies for apprentices, initial interviews and diagnostic testing through to the registration of apprentices to LSC requirements and assessment and verification of qualifications EAL qualifications.
Group staff tries to attend all local careers events and exhibitions and are always available to offer advice and guidance to young people.
